Garage floor epoxy coatings are designed to be a more permanent coating to last for years. They are not like regular floor paint in that they are much harder and resistant to wear. Having said that, all floor epoxies are not the same.
Epoxy floor coatings are typically multi-part materials that cure based upon chemical reaction rather than drying. They are typically a solids-based pigment material and wear-reducing component in a solvent-based or water-based thermosetting resin. Epoxy floor coatings consist of multipart resin and hardener just like much like epoxy adhesive.
There are also faster-wearing options for garage floors that include oil or water-based paints. Typically these wear a lot faster than an epoxy floor, which can last for many, many years.
